Itunes: Kill it before it multiplies!
« on: February 09, 2017, 12:21:40 PM »
I downloaded Beethoven's Quartet #14 from the iTunes store.   After a while, I noticed that there were 8 copies of movement #6, etc.  I pruned the extras, and now I get a message saying that some of the movements "can't be found."  I found some of them, but this is really a PIA.  I"m about to try to buy a CD of this piece and insert that.  Any other suggestions?

No, sorry, other than iTunes is a POMP :-D

Delete all of the files and copy again?

Stuff downloaded from the iTunes store has always worked for me. I dunno what happened, but it sounds more like user error to me. You deleted things you thought were unneeded, and then got a message saying that some things can't be found. I think you probably deleted stuff you shouldn't have. Best remedy is to download again.

Sounds right, Jim.  3 of the 8 copies of the sixth movement had "iCloud" protection...

Did you purchase the entire album (Shastakovich?), or buy a movement at a time? Did you perhaps click on download multiple times? Where were you seeing multiple copies, in your music library in song view? What about in album view?

It was Beethoven.  I purchased the entire album.  I clicked on download once.  I'm not sure whether it was in my music library or song view or album view.

Mickey, I would never download in iTunes again.
Have you ever tried Sony walkman? I bought one used and carry it around because its sound is SO pure and super. It's like in being in heaven to hear the softness of the audio coming from deep within.

I've got an iPhone, and it is fine on the train.... I used to have a Walkman, when they used cassette tapes.... I prefer my iPhone, thanks.  But you might be right about iTunes.

I've just converted some stuff from MP4 to MP3, and I tried to add it to iTunes.  I discovered that part one of a violin sonata went into iTunes just fine, but part two attached itself to another piece of music.... and I can't seem to peel it off and put it where it is supposed to go.  Any suggestions?

Like Charles Ives? Or more like siamese twins? Can you upload the fused creation?

I'll try.  WAIT!

While looking for the item to upload, I figured out that I can dissemble the "collection" from my Music folder, where the two items are together in a folder.  Let me try that, first.

I may have fixed one unintentional combination.  I will see if I can fix the other one.  Double clicking a music file does not allow one to see what is inside it.... but maybe I have to put things inside a folder to fix this.  I just noticed that somehow things in my music folder in iTunes are in bizarre places..... some alphabetic, some reverse alphabetic, and a number of things in "unknown music" folder.

I seem to have gotten the two movements of the violin sonata to set together in one folder, but I can't get Caravan out of the folder.  (I wouldn't mind a separate folder or item for Caravan.)

I did not put things in reverse alphabetical order, or combine these things in a folder.... or any of the things that iTunes has done with my music.  I wouldn't mind sitting down for a couple of hours and putting things into a rational order, but I have no idea if iTunes would allow me to do this.  In other words, I sit down and put things in logical folders, etc. and then open my phone and discover that things were worse than when I started.  My time has to be worth something....

I think I can upload it now.  (Wish me luck.)  Sorry.... I failed....  The folder that the sonata is in doesn't contain Caravan, but in iTunes there it is.....
