No offence taken Robert. Glad you are still up to date to help with newer machines.
Was offering help based on my old OS version. More than years ago ( over 10 now) was when I lost my small interest so that would be right  :D

Robert looks like he has the best solutions to your problem Charlie.

I never was one for keeping up with what was going on unless it was useful. I still really don't know how I managed to fix so many problems and build the databases, it all came from intuition. Often I only had a gut feeling went from that.  I guess, the same as you, a background in natural science and teachers that always told me to work from first principles gave me some inbuilt mind patterns that were partly subconscious that often processed the problems for me.

Perhaps because you used Lastpass to store the passwords instead?

Anyway hopefully you might have a solid solution soon. If your modern OS is the same as mine some passwords can be stored by the browser only.

Hi Robert,
Did all as you said, and restarted.

Keychain Access still beachballs.

Please give me simple instructions for the re-install.

Seach Google for an Apple link on how to make a macos USB booter and installer for your macos version:

Here:  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

Get a 16 GB USB stick

Follow Apple instructions using Terminal application while being sure to name USB stick correctly and make the installer.

Insert USB installer into Mac, restart and press/hold Option key at RAM boing.  When you get to a grey boot screen, choose the USB installer disk and press Return.

Wait until mac boots and choose Install macOS option.  DO NOT choose Disk utility/Format Disk.

Reinstalled system, and restarted.

Keychain Access still goes un-responsive when I try and see a PW for a particular app, or site.

AND now I am getting - ProtectedCloudKeySynching wants to use the "Local items" keychain. And I have no idea what password to enter. Tried my log in PW.

When I open Keychain Access I see no way to unlock Local Items.

??

I see now that it says -The local items keychain cannot be locked. Even though the graphic shows a closed lock.

Ah - see if you have iCloud sync of keychain on and turn if off. Does it make a difference? Long shot but  ProtectedCloudKeySynching sounds like iCloud stuff.

Do you have firewall turned on?

See if we can track down what are the problems.

How does Lastpass work? Is it an app you have installed on that machine? Perhaps it's seriously messing with your Keychain and logins.

If it is an installed app can you uninstall it and any hidden entities it might have placed in your system?

Yesterday my internet went down and I am writing now from my phone.

I deleted Keychain access completely as one source suggested, and still when I try and see a PW log in, the app goes un-responsive. I have a new system installed. No idea what is going on with Keychain Access!

I could not get Terminal to work as hoped for. Perhaps later I will show why.

I am still in the hunt!
